27 Chemoenzyma�c synthesis of DSGb5 2 Chapter 2 Chemoenzyma�c synthesis of the oligosaccharide moiety of the tumor-associated an�gen disialosyl globopentaosylceramide Abstract : Disialosyl globopentaosylceramide (DSGb5) is o�en expressed by renal cell carcino- mas. To inves�gate proper�es of DSGb5, we have prepared its oligosaccharide moiety by chem- ically synthesizing Gb5 which was enzyma�cally sialylated using the mammalian sialyltrans- ferases ST3Gal1 and ST6GalNAc5.
