108 Chapter 5 Article summary Strengths of this study: • The present study contributes evidence from a pragmatic randomised controlled trial to the scarce knowledge on SDM interventions for curative cancer treatment involving the GP. • Protocol adherence and contamination could be assessed since the researchers had full access to the free text and coded routine care data from the Electronic Medical Record of each general practitioner practice. Limitations of this study: • Patients and healthcare providers could not be blinded due to the nature of the intervention. • The intervention is developed in close collaboration with the Dutch federation of cancer patient organisations and the participating general practitioners, but hospital care professionals had less input in the development of the intervention, which may have opposed effectiveness and hampered implementation.
