85 Sedation assessment for neonatal intubation 5 CONCLUSION Validated scoring systems to assess the level of sedation prior to intubation in newborns are not available in the literature. Three objective sedation assessment tools seem promising but need further validation before they can be implemented into research and clinical settings. Future research is necessary to find a physical stimulus that enables clinicians to better anticipate the response to insertion of an endotracheal tube and laryngoscopy and to find the best premedication regimen to achieve the preset goals.
