Growth patterns height Figure 2 and supplementary table S2 show the growth patterns in height of offspring of normal weight, overweight and obese mothers expressed as SD-scores. Table 2 presents the delta SD-scores of the comparison in height of the offspring of overweight and obese mothers compared with the offspring of normal weight mothers. Boys of overweight mothers were taller at age 1 (ΔSDS=0.23) compared to boys of normal weight mothers. No differences were found in height for boys of obese mothers compared to normal weight mothers. Girls of overweight mothers did not differ in height from girls of normal weight mothers, while girls of obese mothers were taller than girls of normal weight mothers from 2 year onwards. Girls of obese mothers were also taller than girls of overweight mothers from 5 years onwards. Girl’s height seemed more sensitive for maternal overweight/obesity compared to boys’ height (p for interaction<0.05). Growth patterns weight Figure 2 and supplementary table S2 show the growth patterns in weight of offspring of normal weight, overweight and obese mothers expressed as SD-scores. Table 2 presents the delta SD-scores of the comparison in weight of the offspring of overweight and obese mothers compared with the offspring of normal weight mothers. Compared to boys of normal weight mothers, boys of overweight mothers were heavier from birth onwards and boys of obese mothers were heavier from 3 years onwards. Girls of overweight mothers were heavier from 2 years onwards than girls of normal weight mothers. Girls of obese mothers were heavier from 6 months onwards than girls of normal weight mothers and from 3 years onwards they were also heavier than girls of overweight mothers. Girls’ weight seemed more sensitive for maternal overweight and especially for maternal obesity than boys (p for interaction<0.05). Growth patterns BMI Figure 2 and supplementary table S2 show the growth patterns in BMI of offspring of normal weight, overweight and obese mothers expressed as SD-scores. Table 4 presents the delta SD-scores of the comparison in BMI of the offspring of overweight and obese mothers compared with the offspring of normal weight mothers. Boys of overweight mothers had a higher BMI than boys from normal weight from 3 years onwards, while boys of obese mothers had a higher BMI from 4 years onwards. Girls of overweight mothers had higher BMIs from 1 year onwards, while girls of obese 154 Chapter 6
