6 mothers had higher BMIs from birth onwards compared to girls of normal weight mothers. Girls of obese mothers had higher BMIs than girls of overweight mothers from 4 years onwards. Girls’ BMI seemed more sensitive to maternal overweight / obesity compared to boys’ BMI (p for interaction<0.05).
