Δ BMI scores compared with reference group Bold figures are different from reference group (p<0.05) a) Delta BMI-score between normal weight (reference) and overweight group b) Delta BMI-score between European origin overweight (reference) and other overweight group c) Delta BMI-score between high SES overweight (reference) and middle SES overweight / low SES overweight groups. Growth curves in children from lower versus higher educational background Figure 4 presents the growth to overweight for different maternal education groups, in children of European origin only. No differences in the growth patterns to overweight were found between children of low and middle maternal education, but both groups differed from the growth patterns observed in the higher educated group. Although timing and magnitude of the BMI peak was similar for all maternal education groups, the low/middle maternal education group had a lower BMI during the first 2 years (only statistically significant for the low group; table 3) and an earlier adiposity rebound than the high maternal education group. After age 3 years BMI increased rapidly in the low/middle maternal education group and at age 6 years the 205 Growth patterns to overweight Growth curves in European versus non-European origin children Figure 3 presents the growth curves to overweight of European origin and non- European origin boys and girls. No differences were found in growth patterns to overweight between both populations. (Table 3 and Supplementary table 3).
