92 | Chapter 6 experienced in using both methods in daily practice. As the I ‐ 125 GL technique was introduced later, a learning curve effect for the use of iodine ‐ 125 seeds cannot be ruled out, which might have affected some of the variables analyzed, such as duration of operation. Moreover, iodine ‐ 125 seeds might have been used to mark large DCIS lesions, which were not considered suitable for BCS surgery using the WGL technique. The present study adds to the existing literature that the I ‐ 125 GL technique may be preferred over WGL, as the method has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of extensively involved resection margins after BCS, and the need for additional surgery in women with DCIS.
