199 Colonic manometry and contrast enemas 9 FIGURE 1. Schematic image of the procedures that were performed. The left image depicts the colonic manometry catheter (dotted line) that was placed into the colonic lumen. The right image depicts the colonic diameter measurements that were performed at 5 cm intervals from the anal verge up to the splenic flexure (dotted lines), using a contrast enema. RESULTS Thirty children were included in the study (60% boys, median age 10 years), the inclusion process is summarized in Figure 2. Patient characteristics and results from contrast enemas and colonic manometry are shown in Table 1. Comparisons of colonic size characteristics between colonic segments with and without HAPCs (“HAPC+” and “HAPC−”) are shown in Table 2. Colonic segments without HAPCs had a significantly larger diameter than colonic segments with HAPCs ( P < .001 for absolute values,  P < .001 for SCS ratios). Within the group of children with prematurely terminating HAPCs, the same phenomenon was observed; colonic segments without HAPCs had a significantly larger diameter than colonic segments with HAPCs ( P < .001 for absolute values, P = .001 for SCS ratios).
