Aernoud Fiolet

408 Appendices teacher, accessibility, optimism, and apparently unbreakable good mood. Your scientific integrity and humanity are unique, while being one of the most notable contemporaneous cardiovascular trialist. A crucial part of our team is prof.dr. Jan Tijssen , who is one of the most inspiring teachers that I have come to know during my life. With inexhaustible diligence, you helped us work through many of the methodological and statistical sections of our papers and ancillary documents. Your analytical and consistent approach to science is superb and truly unequalled. The fact that even Jan Hein can’t interrupt you is also quite remarkable. All the members of our team share a deep respect for your experience and the way you were able to guide us through the conduct of our studies, in particular through the next-level review process of the main paper. The debate of the century must have been the 2020 quarrel between “the two J’s” (Jan Tijssen and John Jarcho), and it was an absolute feast to witness. It is a pleasure for any young investigator to spend even only a few hours with you on analyses, let alone being able to collaborate with you the waywe did. There is only question that remains: how does one retire from one’s retirement? Then of course Charley Budgeon PhD , who I am very grateful to for always providing us with a smile and exercising patience whenever we requested “variations on the same theme.” Your efforts on the analyses and visuals are highly appreciated. Your work included the great challenges of data transformation and translation. Doing all of this while finishing a PhD, being abroad, and starting a teaching job is impressive and deserves our respect. Finally, since she was the voice of reason and maybe the only person who oversaw all the different aspects of the project, my gratitude goes out to Astrid Schut . As a true “mother hen,” you kept all the fanatic scientists within the practical boundaries and played a crucial role in acquiring funding and disseminating our ideas throughout the world. Probably wearing more hats at once than any of the other team members, you still succeeded in connecting with all of your colleagues and staff members on a personal level. You fulfill the task of acting as the managing director of the DutchNetwork forCardiovascular Research (WCN) with an enviable ease. I am very grateful to you and your team for conducting such a diversity of tasks, including steering the visit of the Dutch inspectorate in the right direction and bringing the final reporting to the funding agencies to such a good end.
