Esmée Tensen

221 APPENDICES CURRICULUM VITAE Esmée Tensen was born on the 28th of February 1993 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She grew up with her parents and two sisters in Amsterdam and later moved to Oegstgeest. In 2011 she graduated from high school (gymnasium level) at the Bonaventuracollege Mariënpoelstraat in Leiden. In the same year she started the study Medical Informatics at the University of Amsterdam, located in the Academic Medical Center (AMC, now part of Amsterdam UMC). She obtained her bachelor’s degree with honors in 2014. As part of her honors program, she took extra courses in addition to the regular Medical Informatics curriculum, attended the MEDINFO conference in Copenhagen, and set up her first scientific research project. During this honors research project, Esmée analyzed the attitude of nursing personnel towards an electronic patient record system that was recently implemented at the Emma’s Children Hospital (Amsterdam UMC). Her bachelor thesis focused on the design aspects that pose a risk to patient safety while administering medication in a newly implemented electronic patient record system. While she was studying, she was vice-chairman of the program committee Medical Informatics and member of the University’s Teaching Qualification Committee (BKO). In 2014 she subsequently started her Master of Medical Informatics and worked as assistant data manager for the National Intensive Care Evaluation (NICE). Esmée performed her master thesis at Ksyos as a precursor to her PhD trajectory. In the beginning of 2017 she started her part-time PhD research program at the University of Amsterdam in collaboration with the Amsterdam UMC (department of Medical Informatics) and Ksyos. She participated again in the Program Committee Medical and Health Informatics but this time as an alumna. Simultaneously to her PhD trajectory, she worked part-time and later full-time as Business Intelligence analyst and Product Owner Business Intelligence at Ksyos. In this position, she obtained her Professional Scrum Product Owner I and Power BI Data Analyst Associate certificates. Esmée is currently living in Leiden. In her spare time she volunteers for De Hinkelaar foundation. De Hinkelaar organizes groundbreaking activities for people with a physical disability or chronic illness under the slogan “Hoezo kan niet?!?” (Why is it impossible?!?). After submitting her PhD thesis, she takes over a new challenge as Business Analyst at Better Places, an innovative tour operator and social enterprise with a focus on responsible and sustainable travel.
