The aim of a healing environment is to provide an environment for patients, staff, and visitors, that is calm, non-institutional, and can positively impact the recovery time of patients (10, 11). The decision for 100% single occupancy room was largely based on expert opinion, as evidence for its effects on infections and on other patient related outcomes was limited back then. Figure 1a.
