80 Chapter 4 Conclusion Implant-supported prosthetic obturation after maxillectomy appears to improve chewing ability, oral functioning, and patient satisfaction. More research is needed to confirm the advantages in speech and swallowing after implantsupported prosthetic obturation. This treatment modality is a viable alternative to surgical reconstruction after maxillectomy, especially in medically compromised and older patients. If implant placement is possible in maxillectomy patients, implant-retained obturator prostheses should be preferred.
