 Summary This Chapter examines the influence of alkyl chain length in imidazolium cations on CO2 reduction and explores the role of alkali metal cations in anhydrous CO2 reduction. The findings reveal a detrimental effect of longer alkyl chains on CO2 reduction activity. Moreover, the introduction of alkali metals leads to complete suppression of CO2 reduction, even in the presence of imidazolium cations. This suppression is likely attributed to the formation of carbonate precipitates on the electrode surface. These results emphasize the importance of alkyl chain length optimization and underscore the challenges associated with alkali metal cations in non-aqueous CO2 reduction systems.
