Figure 4: Learning Plan for Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass GJ = gastrojejunostomy, IS-PBA = independence-scaled procedure-based assessment, JJ = jejunojejunostomy, OR = operating room, OSATS = Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skill Implementation of an MBS curriculum with these goals and formative assessment in the Dutch curriculum requires at least three major steps: the creation of a PSAT for the gastric sleeve, the implementation of the PSAT in the surgical curriculum and the development and implementation of a specific metabolic bariatric training program. In addition to these developments, continuous training of the supervisors is necessary to ensure they are surgical experts as well as competent trainers and assessors. Future research should include evaluation of the primary goals: training future surgeons in a safe environment within the time-restraints of general surgical training, without compromising on patient safety and surgical outcomes. The research in this thesis lays a fundament for an evidence-based curriculum for metabolic bariatric surgery in the Netherlands. The proposed curriculum is caried by SBME and supported by both formative and summative assessments. After adaptation, continuous reevaluation of this curriculum to future standards is as essential as the continuous learning of surgeons throughout their careers. 166 8
