209 The patient perspective on colorectal anastomotic leaks: A qualitative study research team comprised members with diverse perspectives (Supplementary S3) to limit the role of preconceptions and pre-study beliefs 23. RESULTS Study participants Ten participants who underwent colorectal resections for benign or malignant conditions were included in the study (Table 1). The participants were from the Netherlands (n=3), Canada (n=1), Australia (n=1), the United States (n=3), and the United Kingdom (n=2). Six were male, with a median age of 53 (range 39-65) years. The wife of one participant (P6) joined the interview. Analysis of the interviews showed that no new codes emerged by the ninth interview. However, one additional interview was analyzed to ensure thematic saturation. AL occurred from 3 days to one month after the index operation. Eight participants underwent percutaneous drainage and 7 underwent a reoperation, including six with a new ostomy. The median time since the AL diagnosis was 2 years (range 4-88 months). Interviews lasted between 30-45 minutes. Table 1.
