We had particular interest in microorganisms that achieved highest abundances or persisted across experimental time points, and selected several key species for in-depth metabolic reconstruction: two key putative sulfur-oxidizing microorganisms (MAG 39 Nitrobium versatile and MAG 65 Thiohalobacteraceae), two key methane oxidizers (MAG 36 Methanoperedens nitroreducens and MAG 38 Methylomirabilis tolerans), and two key nitrogen-cycling microorganisms - the ammonium oxidizer “Ca. Kuenenia stuttgartiensis” (MAG 32) and a putative denitrifying Acidobacterium (MAG 60 Thermoanaerobaculia 1).
