40 Chapter 2 Therefore we refrained from a sample size calculation and chose the numbers of CTGs and number of raters as a balance between what is acceptable in reliability studies and feasible for a large number of raters. When looking at Table 2 (in the manuscript) from a clinical viewpoint, we see that the proportion agreement of the primary care midwives has a value between the obstetricians and clinical midwives. We presented the 95% CI to give an idea about the precision of the estimates. Based on this Table, we think that despite a lack of a formal power calculation, we may conclude that the four professional groups are equally able to assess antenatal CTGs, and the level of experience did not affect antenatal CTG assessment in our study.
